Targeted Metabolomics
Targeted metabolomics is an extension and expansion of untargeted metabolomics, characterized by high specificity, sensitivity, and accurate quantification. By quantitatively and qualitatively analyzing specific metabolites in target samples, targeted metabolomics can not only reveal related molecular biological mechanisms in conjunction with other experimental data but also provide strong support for the further research and development of metabolic biomarkers. It can be used to validate hypotheses proposed by untargeted metabolomics experiments, conduct hypothesis-driven exploratory experiments, and study metabolic models focused on specific metabolites. The targets of detection include amino acids, short-chain fatty acids, free fatty acids, bile acids, etc.

Application areas
Medical Field: Targeted metabolomics is primarily used for precise qualitative and quantitative analysis of small molecule metabolites in the body. Its goal is to study the relationship between metabolites and physiological and pathological changes to investigate the mechanisms of disease occurrence and development and identify biomarkers for early prediction and diagnosis of diseases. It is mainly applied in clinical diagnosis, pathological mechanism research, disease classification, drug development and screening, drug effic. monitoring, evaluation of drug effic. and toxic side effects, preclinical animal model screening, etc.
Food Health and Nutrition Field: Targeted metabolomics is gradually being used to achieve personalized dietary recommendations. It promotes the development of molecular toxicology in food safety and has broad applications in food traceability and ingredient evaluation. It is mainly applied in food processing technology development, dietary recommendations, food origin traceability, food authenticity testing, dietary nutrient planning, etc.
Agriculture and Forestry Field: Targeted metabolomics is used to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze all small molecule metabolites in plants belonging to different species, genetic types, or ecological types at different growth stages or before and after certain stimuli. It also studies the effects of different environmental stresses on plants and discovers the rules of metabolic changes. It is mainly applied in the development of pesticides and herbicides, research on plant stress resistance, plant genetics and breeding, and genetically modified organisms.
Livestock Industry: Targeted metabolomics is used to elucidate the characteristics of metabolic changes caused by nutritional supply, feeding conditions and methods, different feeds, veterinary drugs, etc., and to reveal the mechanisms of their action within animals. This helps improve the productivity of the livestock industry and ensure its safety and stable development. It is mainly applied in scientific animal feeding, disease prevention and control, and developmental research.
