Untargeted Metabolomics

Untargeted metabolomics is an unbiased approach to detect all endogenous small-molecule metabolites in a sample. It utilizes bioinformatics analysis methods to study the overall changes and metabolic characteristics of the endogenous metabolome in response to perturbations, aiming to identify the endogenous small-molecule metabolites responsible for such metabolic differences and explore the underlying metabolic mechanisms. Compared to targeted metabolite profiling, untargeted metabolomics provides more comprehensive and objective information, avoiding the loss of important data and directional biases. It is commonly used for discovering metabolic profile differences and differential metabolites.
